Small business website grader
Six live checks on your domain plus thirteen honest questions, turned into a grade and a short list of what to fix first.
1 Run the automated checks
Your browser looks up your domain's public DNS records through Google Public DNS and makes one request to your site. We do not store the address you enter.
2 Answer what a tool cannot see
Open your site on your phone and answer honestly. “Not sure” counts as a no.

Upkeep
Enter your web address and answer the questions to see your grade.
A website grade is only useful if you know what was actually checked. So here it is, upfront: a web page cannot read another company's site, which means this tool does not crawl your pages, time how fast they load, or look up your rankings. Anything that claims to do all of that from your browser alone is guessing.
What it can do is run six real checks on your domain's public records and your site's HTTPS, then ask thirteen questions that only you can answer, like whether your quote form actually reaches your inbox. You get a letter grade, a list of fixes in plain English, and links to Google's free tools for the things we cannot measure here.
What the automated checks look at
Your browser asks Google Public DNS for your domain's public records and makes one request to your site. Those answers cover six checks:
- Your domain points to a website at all
- Your address works both with and without www
- Your site answers over HTTPS with a certificate the browser accepts
- Your domain has email set up, so you can use an address at your own business name
- Your domain has an SPF record, which helps your emails avoid the spam folder
- Your domain has a DMARC record, which protects your name from fake emails
What it does not check
We would rather tell you what is missing than hand you a number that looks precise and is not. This grader does not measure:
- Page speed. Use the PageSpeed Insights link in the results, which runs Google's own test.
- The words on your pages, your headings, or your meta descriptions
- Where you rank on Google, or for which searches
- Broken links, missing images, or accessibility problems
- Whether www redirects to the bare address or the other way round, only that both work
Why the questions matter more than the checks
Much of what makes a small business site win or lose work is invisible to software. A tool can confirm that your domain has a certificate. It cannot tell whether a homeowner on a phone can find your number without scrolling, or whether your form has been quietly failing since spring.
That is why the self-check carries most of the grade. Answer it with your own site open on your phone. If you are not sure about something, mark it Not sure. It counts as a no, because a problem you have not checked is still a problem.
If you only fix five things
Every site is different, but these gaps are common, and each one can stand between a visitor and an enquiry.
- Put a way to contact you on the first screen on mobile
A call, text, or quote button that does not require scrolling.
- Send yourself a test enquiry
Then check your spam folder. If it is there, the SPF and DMARC checks above are a good place to start.
- Make your Google Business Profile match your site
Same name, hours, services, and service area in both places.
- Give your main services their own pages
One page per service you want more of, written for the people who search for it.
- Find out who backs up your site
And who would restore it if something broke tomorrow.
Questions we get asked
Is this the same as an SEO audit?
No. It checks your domain setup and walks you through the basics a customer notices. A full audit also reviews your content, speed, and search performance, which this tool does not measure.
Why does the HTTPS check say Could not confirm?
The request to your site failed. That usually means there is no valid SSL certificate, but a browser extension or privacy setting can also block the test. Open your site in a private window and look for the padlock to be sure.
Do you store the web address I enter?
No. Your browser sends the lookups to Google Public DNS and one request to your site. Nothing is sent to us.
My email checks failed but I do not use email on my domain. Does it matter?
Less, but an address at your own domain looks more established, and the SPF and DMARC records also stop other people from sending fake emails in your name.
