How to move your website off Wix
Wix will not hand you a folder that is the new site. Plan the move as a rebuild that keeps the right pages.
Leaving Wix is less like packing a house and more like copying the rooms you still want into a new building. The editor, the apps, and the layout stay behind. The domain, the words, the photos, and the email can come with you if you handle them on purpose.

When moving off Wix makes sense
Move when you are done being the person who edits the site, when an app you relied on is a monthly surprise, or when the pages no longer match the business. Stay when you like the editor, the site is finished, and you will keep it current. Moving for its own sake just creates a second project.
Do not expect the new site to be a pixel copy. Wix sites are built inside Wix. What transfers cleanly is the material you can read and save: page text, blog posts you still want, images, and a list of the addresses people already use.
Steps, in order
Do these before you cancel the Wix plan. Canceling first is how people lose the only copy of a page.
- Confirm you can log in to Wix and to the domain
The domain might be registered at Wix or at another company. You need both logins, and a second person at the business should know where they are.
- Save the content you still mean
Copy the services, the about text, the hours, and the policies into a document. Download the photos you took. Note which blog posts are worth keeping. Assume the designed layout does not export as a working site.
- List the old addresses
Write down every public page address you care about, including ones printed on a truck or a card. Those become the redirect list.
- See where email lives
If mail uses the same domain, write down that it must keep working. Changing the website's address records without a plan can stop the inbox. Leave email records alone until someone who understands them is looking.
- Build the new site while Wix is still up
The old site should stay online until the new one is ready. Overlap is cheaper than a week of a dead address.
- Point the domain, then add redirects
After the new site is live, point the domain at it and redirect each old address to the closest new page. Redirects protect the path people and Google already know, as far as a redirect can. They do not promise the old rankings.
- Update the Google Business Profile link
The profile should open the new site, not a retired Wix address. If your only site was ever a Google Business Profile website, that is a separate, already-finished shutdown.
- Watch the inbox and the forms for a few days
Send a test through the new form. Send a test email to the domain. Then cancel Wix when you no longer need it as a reference.
